WHO WE ARE

The Romanian Foundation for Children, Community, and Family (Fundaţia Română pentru Copii, Comunitate şi Familie) was legally registered in 1997; it is an authorised Foundation, recognised as a Public Utility organisation since 1994. Governance: Board Council consisting of a President, two Vice-Presidents and two members.

  • Our vision is a world where all children have the right to grow and develop to their full potential within a safe family environment, without poverty and exploitation.

  • Mission: to support vulnerable and marginalised children, so that they can grow in a safe family environment and have access to the much needed education and healthcare.

  • Our organisational strategic goals are: Family, Education and Health.

The Romanian Foundation for Children, Community and Family (FRCCF) is one of the most important nongovernmental organizations focused on child protection in Romania. FRCCF helps disadvantaged children and their families through charity programs run in Transylvania. FRCCF involves the family, the community and the State in supporting these children so that their rights are respected and their needs met.

Every day, the children enrolled in FRCCF programs have to face the lack of a welcoming home, a decent meal, and positive guidance. FRCCF stands by them and fosters them. We don't let them face hardship alone. We make sure they have equal opportunities, regardless of their ethnicity, religion, social status or disability. FRCCF helps these vulnerable children keep their innocence and grow up harmoniously.

Starting with 2001, FRCCF has created 8 urban community centres and 5 rural ones, and directly supported various types of public residential childcare institutions, schools in order to help the children stay healthy, live in their own families or in family-type environment, attend school, overcome risk situations that might lead to school drop-out, school failure, develop a positive attitude toward education, complete further education and obtain the qualification best suited to their personal aptitudes and interests.

WHOM WE SUPPORT

Children from low-income families (aged 6 through 18) are supported in order to attend school and cope with the shortages they face every day. These children and their families live in unimaginable conditions, many of them with no access to heating, electricity or clean water.

  • 75% of the mothers and over 50% of the fathers earn under the minimum wage per economy.
  • 35% of the mothers and 13% of the fathers did not have any source of income in 2009.
  • Living conditions: an average number of 3 people in one room.
  • 25% of the families have no water supply, 6% lack electricity in their dwellings.

HOW WE HELP

To prevent these children from abandoning school, the centres provide the support their parents cannot give them. Here, they get a daily meal (for most of them, the most consistent meal of the day), benefit from homework support, tutoring sessions (if they have difficulties at school), and professional help from a psychologist (to overcome behavioural problems and traumatic experiences) or attend their most appreciated group, the arts one, take part in interactive games and contests, outdoor education programmes etc. Children and their family members are given assistance (social work) to overcome crisis situations, and benefit from the support of professional staff for legal advice, vocational guidance, and medical counselling.
